Biography
Chris Birkett is a unique visionary artist.
He is a multi talented music producer, sound engineer, musician, lyric writer and composer.
His journey as an artist and his life are intimately connected and bear witness to his vision of a better world to come. His music productions and collaborations have sold more than one hundred million records and earned him three Grammy Awards for excellence in the music business.
Chris Birkett is born in London. Music has always been his passion. At 8 years old, he built his first guitar. This instrument became his way to communicate feelings and emotions.
At 14, he started playing concerts in London clubs.
At 21, a group called « Montana Red Dog » who had heard of Chriss reputation as an excellent guitarist asked him to come to Germany for an eighteen months tour.
From this moment, his life took a new turn. This crossroad was the beginning of a new musical odyssey leading him to collaborate with well known Memphis artists, Rufus Thomas, Ann Peebles, King Floyd and Jean Knight. At 23, he returned to London to join the famous pop group « Love Affair » whose song "Everlasting Love" became a hit for many months in the UK charts. Two years later, he auditioned for a group called « Omaha Sheriff » who had just signed a major contract with Tony Visconti, the manager of Good Earth Records and the producer of David Bowie, the Moody Blues, Marc Bolan, T-Rex and later of Rita Mitsouko, Raphaël and The Klaxons.
Visconti became Chris Birkett's mentor and introduced him to the world of music production, arranging and sound engineering.
He rapidly became a producer in his own right working with artists such as : Sinead O'Connor, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Alison Moyet, Dexys Midnight Runners, Talking Heads, The Pogues, Bob Geldof, Mel Brooks, Siedah Garrett, Steve Earle, Ali Amran, Alain Chamfort, René Lacaille, Talitha Mac Kenzie etc
In 1993, he moved to France and opened a studio in Bordeaux where he collaborated with many international and world music artists ; at the same time, he returned to the stage to promote his first album "Men from the sky". The extract "Where do we go from here" was included in the humanitarian album "One Voice, One Love" on Polygram records In 2009, he recorded his own second album "Freedom" featuring Tony Visconti, Buffy Sainte-Marie, David Hykes, Marc Berthoumieux and André Ceccarelli.
